DELTA APC CONGRESS: YOUTHS FOIL ATTEMPT TO HIJACK CONGRESS LISTS
An attempt to hijack the Congress of the All Progressive Congress, APC in Delta state by the O'Tega/Jones led faction" has been foiled by vigilant youths of the party in the state.
Following the foiled hijack, available reports revealed that the national leadership of the party has reportedly rejected the list of delegates forwarded which has been described as "illegally compiled list.
A statement issued and signed by Prince Christopher Akpojotor Agaga that, "the Delta State Chapter of the APC which has been experiencing political turbulence since shortly after the 2015 general elections.
According to Prince Agaga, "due to the woeful outings of the party and their candidate in the last gubernatorial elections and the inefficiency/inexperience of the state executive committee, has recently been enjoying a relative peace, as a result of a peace accord brokered by the Honorable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu whereby all warring factions agreed to sheath their swords on certain terms of agreement. The bedrock of the terms of agreement is that all serious party issues must be brought to the table of the party leadership, which comprise of the key leaders of the party across all the warring factions, for proper handling and inclusiveness to reflect the true position of the people, not just a cabal within the party highjacking any process, so that the party will be a true representation of the people at the grassroots".
Speaking with NAIJ NEWS ALERT, Prince Akpojotor disclosed that, "Saturday 29th July 2017, was supposed to be the party's LGA congress across the country, whereby, three delegates each per LGA were expected to be elected".
"Based on the terms of agreement reached by the Delta APC leaders, the issue of the congress was supposed to be brought before the leaders and collectively, agree on how to go about it. But, surprisingly, the O'tega/Jones led faction highjacked the process and secretly handpicked the delegates without duly consulting with the leaders as agreed by all in the peace accord".
"This breach of the peace accord by the O'tega/Jones faction, according to Prince Christopher Akpojotor Agaga, "is a clear proof that they are hell bent on derailing the party to achieving their purpose. "The hand of Isau, but the voice of Jacob".

NAIJ NEWS ALERT gathered that the delegation by the national leadership of the party from Abuja to conduct the primaries, was shocked when on arrival, they were presented with a list of delegates from across the state, on asking why the list without a congress, the Jones/O'tega crew told them the leaders of the party have met and all agreed to put up this list collectively and there was no need for the congress, that they will just do a formality congress.
The leader of the delegation from Abuja, who smelt a rat in their story, decided to reach some of the Delta State leaders he knows, to ascertain their claim that they all agreed to put up that list.
Unfortunately, all those he called denied knowledge of any such selective list. Thus, the delegation from Abuja has jettisoned that kangaroo list submitted by the Jones/O'tega faction of the party.
The leaders will be meeting by Monday or Tuesday to put heads together on how to rearrange and conduct the congress, as in the case of Sokoto state, whose chairman spoke with the NAIJ NEWS ALERT crew on how the delegates from Sokoto state were elected openly across the state, on a free and fair note.

Efforts by NAIJ NEWS ALERT crew to try reach out to some of the state leaders to ascertain the report of the Congress delegation from Abuja, that the Delta State APC Congress could not hold, because they spoke with some key leaders of the party in the state, who claimed no knowledge of the estranged national delegates list.
According to the Hon. Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe
Kachikwu, he stated that he was not a party to that list, his consent was not even sought before they compiled that list.
On contacting Chief Great Ogboru, he told our crew that, Prophet Jones Erue called him and told him to send a female name to him, from his LGA, he then told Jones that the party has a serving female councillor in his LGA, that Jones can take the name of the serving councillor. That he was never aware of any meeting where they agreed on modalities of electing the Congress delegates.
According to Chief Engr. Hyacinth Enuha the Chairman of the Delta APC Elders/Leaders Committee, he was never a party to any such list, that what they expected was that the leaders were supposed to meet, agree on what to do and execute it collectively to represent the interest of the generality of the people of APC across the state. He further stressed that there is need for the leaders to meet immediately and straighten up this issue not to finally kill the fragile peace that is existing in the party right now.
Chief Ayirimi Emami, an APC Chieftain in the state said; "I was never aware of any such list and will not accept such imposition from any person or persons".
A member of the Delta APC Integrity and Unity group who spoke with our correspondent in Warri said they are already putting up a petition to the national leadership of the party, and if the National does not step into this issue and correct this mess the O'tega/Jones faction is plunging this party into, they will be left with no option but to organise the youths and take over the Secretariat from them and pilot the affairs of the party in the state.
"This madness of acting the PDP script most be stopped now. In his words, "it's high time the youths stopped these political traders and took over what belongs to them".
This medium also gathered that in one of the LGAs, a former member and minority leader of the Delta State House of Assembly, who also is one of the O'tega/Jones allies, single handedly handpicked the three delegates including his alleged girl friend, without the consent of leaders in the LGA, even when that LGA has a statutory State Caucus member who is a retired Military General and a one time Military Governor of one of the Eastern States.
