OPINION: APARTHEID IN NIGERIA..... By Orisun

"What kind of “powerful spell” have dulled our sensibilities that made the children of the house become slaves or at best, 3rd class citizens to their visitors in their own fathers’ yard?

It is been painful and shameful, each time I think of Nigeria’s role in bringing down the Apartheid Regime in South Africa.

Isn’t it very ironical that we could remove the speck in other people’s eyes but forget the logs in ours?

This has been eating deep into my soul and I still cannot rationalize the reasons why there are so much docility, complacency and or cowardice in the face of an accelerated systematic and endemic alienation, cleansing and extinction of the “free-borns” by the settlers?

What kind of “powerful spell” have dulled our sensibilities that made the children of the house become slaves or at best, 3rd class citizens to their visitors in their own fathers’ yard?

Baffling, isn’t it?

The spell must be so strong that even in the full glare; the leaders are now being the led! Mediocrity now the ruler over Excellence, and there is a graveyard silence except a few mumbled voices.

What a pity! In a land where we are adjudged to have some of the best brains in the Universe, we allow our minds and destinies be hijacked by nonentities and we are feeling “cool” with ourselves? A big shame on us all!

I pray our children and their children would not one day, spit on our graves.

It will happen if we refuse to lend our voices when we still can. I still cannot decode what the problem is with us in this country! We go out to foreign lands and know we have and can demand for our “Rights” but in our God given abode, we do not even recognize such Rights.

The “managed passes”, are the ones lording it over the 1st class brains and it’s so becoming the order of the day and all who should be pained are busy excusing away it away. What a tragedy?

With all our so-called Religiosities, what of if we can’t break this evil “spell” on us? What are we doing watching as all our firsts are becoming the lasts in all spheres of our Nigerian Space?

Let us wake up from this induced slumber and smell the coffee. I have! Have you?

Leave God out of this please, as I am sure He did not create the docility, gullibility and chicken-ability in us.

He made us BOLD like the Lions and Eagles and expects us all to think and feel same!

He endowed us with Brains and handed us its remote control so we can chose the applications.

May we choose wisdom.
