NEWS: NOA ISSUES DIRECTIVE ON USE OF NATIONAL ANTHEM

 

"Nigerians should recite/sing only the first stanza of the national anthem, and not all three (3) stanzas at official events" NOA

 



The National Orientation Agency NOA on Friday 17 October 2025, rolled out a directive regarding the use of the National Anthem at all governments functions nationwide.


According to the directive from the NOA, it is expected that nigerians should recite/sing only the first stanza of the national anthem, and not all three (3) stanzas at official events.


It further notes that the third stanza should be recited as the National Prayer at the beginning of an event.


Similarly, the three stanzas are to be recited or sung only during Independence Day, at the Inauguration (swearing-in) of the President, Armed Forces Remembrance Day. Also, other days and events include Democracy (June 12) Day, Inauguration of the National Assembly, etc.


The directive which was communicated through the Communication department of the National Orientation Agency NOA further disclosed that the National Pledge is to be recited at the end of an event.
