President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned the completed Arterial Road N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way) linking Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III in Abuja's Dape District, commending Julius Berger Nigeria Plc for delivering the project with world-class professionalism and within schedule.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the inauguration ceremony, despite heavy rainfall, Tinubu described Julius Berger as a company that "does not take assignments lightly," praising the firm's commitment to quality and timely execution.

The President noted that unlike many infrastructure projects that linger for years due to neglect and poor implementation, the N5 road was conceived, funded and delivered by his administration. Awarded to Julius Berger with a strict 15-month completion timeline, the project was completed on schedule after commencement in October 2024.

Tinubu said the road project reflects his administration's determination to transform the Federal Capital Territory into a modern and functional capital city, stressing that infrastructure remains a critical measure of national development. He also praised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for driving the rapid execution of projects across Abuja, describing him as "the engine of execution" whose leadership has replaced excuses with results.

Wike, in turn, applauded Julius Berger for its reliability and performance, saying the construction giant consistently delivers whenever entrusted with critical assignments. Recounting discussions with the company's management ahead of President Tinubu's third anniversary in office, he said Julius Berger fulfilled its promise to complete the road in time for commissioning.

The minister highlighted the growing pace of infrastructure delivery in the FCT, revealing that project commissioning activities have expanded from nine days during the President's first anniversary in office in 2024 to 19 days in 2025 and 31 days this year.

Earlier, Managing Director of Julius Berger, Peer Lubasch, described the project as more than a road, noting that it would significantly improve mobility, enhance security, stimulate economic activities and strengthen connectivity across the capital city.

According to him, the completed road will eliminate longstanding traffic bottlenecks around Life Camp Junction while improving access for residents of Dape, Gwarinpa, Kado, Karsana, Idu, Gwagwa, Jiwa and surrounding communities to the city centre and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

Lubasch disclosed that the project involved extensive engineering works, including the construction of about four kilometres of dual-carriageway road, a two-span river bridge, more than 250,000 cubic metres of earthworks, replacement of over 50,000 cubic metres of unsuitable soil, and nearly 20,000 cubic metres of rock excavation and blasting.

Additional infrastructure delivered under the project includes nine kilometres of stormwater drainage, four kilometres of foul-water drainage, 140 metres of twin-cell box culverts, extensive street lighting, utility crossings and telecommunications corridors.

He noted that much of the project's most challenging engineering work remains hidden beneath the surface through underground drainage systems, utilities and reinforced earthworks that will support the road's long-term durability.

Lubasch described the commissioning as a celebration of leadership, vision and delivery, while commending the Wike-led FCT Administration for accelerating infrastructure development across the nation's capital.

The ceremony attracted top government officials, lawmakers and other dignitaries from across the country.
