Remi Tinubu Unveils IT Academy, Dialysis Centre, Launches Food Bank in Jigawa

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, wife of Nigeria's President on Monday commissioned the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Academy, a state-of-the-art clinic and dialysis centre in Hadejia, Jigawa State, while launching the National Community Food Bank Programme for the North-West, in a move aimed at strengthening healthcare, education and food security.

Speaking at the ceremony, Senator Tinubu described the projects as tangible evidence of the Federal Government's commitment to expanding quality healthcare, improving infrastructure and investing in the nation's future through education and innovation.

She said the newly inaugurated clinic and dialysis centre would provide life-saving healthcare services to residents of Hadejia and neighbouring communities, while the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Academy would drive human capital development by equipping young Nigerians with cutting-edge digital and technological skills.

"The academy represents President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's commitment to human capital development and educational excellence. By investing in the education of our children today, we are securing a better tomorrow for them," she said.

The First Lady also flagged off the National Community Food Bank Programme for the North-West, describing it as a sustainable response to food insecurity and malnutrition among vulnerable households.

She explained that the initiative targets children under six years, pregnant women and nursing mothers, adding that it aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda by improving nutrition, healthcare outcomes and national food security.

According to her, the programme is being implemented through a partnership involving the Office of the First Lady, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) and the Bank of Agriculture.

Senator Tinubu disclosed that following the inauguration of the National Community Food Trust Fund in Abuja in April and the first regional rollout in Borno State, Jigawa becomes the second zonal launch of the initiative. She noted that the Borno pilot had already enrolled 560 beneficiaries and reached 468 vulnerable women and children within two months.

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State commended the First Lady for the intervention, describing the food bank initiative as timely and capable of improving nutrition among children and vulnerable families.

He pledged the support of North-West governors towards the success of the programme through the provision of storage and distribution facilities, strengthened food centres, and transparent implementation.

Namadi also highlighted Jigawa's nutrition interventions, revealing that over 240,000 children were screened for malnutrition in 2024 and about 382,000 in 2025, with thousands successfully treated through community-based nutrition programmes.

The President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Academy was established with the support of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and is equipped with fabrication laboratories, artificial intelligence-driven learning facilities, innovation hubs and research spaces to promote digital innovation.

Designed to complement the academy, the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Clinic features a dialysis centre, operating theatre, maternity wards, renewable energy-powered facilities and continuous piped oxygen systems. The academy's fabrication laboratory is expected to support healthcare research by developing organ prototypes and diagnostic tools to aid the early detection and prevention of chronic kidney disease.

The event attracted all seven North-West governors and their spouses, senior federal and state government officials, traditional rulers, and development partners, underscoring the significance of the initiatives in advancing healthcare delivery, technological innovation and social welfare in the region.
