SENATE PASSES 2016 APPROPRIATION BILL

AT LAST, SENATE PASSES BUDGET

After several debates, issues and discoveries, the 8th Senate of the National Assembly has finally passed the 2016 budget, with an unprecedented reduction in the budget’s total.

Recall, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari had presented a N6.08 trillion proposal in December 2015 but the Senate passed N6,060,677,358,227 trillion budget after considering its conference report on the budget.

According NAIJNEWSALERT, this is the first time since 1999 that the National Assembly would approve a figure lower than proposed by the executive. This was disclosed by Senator John Enoh, chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance.

Senator Enoh stated  that Budget reflected the “mood of the country and the world” and showed “discipline” of the part of the National Assembly.

NAIJNEWALERT reports that the House of Representatives is expected to approve the same figure when it deliberates on the Budget by Wednesday.
