CCB AND CCT ACT.......NEED FOR TRANSPARENCY

“As long as Nigerians cannot walk into the office of the CCB and demand to know what is in the form filled by those they elected or appointed, the road to transparency remains a long one", Senator Shehu Sani.

Danlami Usman, KADUNA    Human Rights Activist and serving Senator of the Federal republic of Nigeria, Shehu Sani is among first term senators from the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC that is always drawing comments from his constituents.

According to the outspoken member representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, “the highest respect a public office holder can pay to the moral calling of CCB Act, is to PUBLICLY declare his or her assets upon the assumption of office; and I have done that in the footsteps of Mr. President and the VP.

“Amendment or no amendment as long as long as there exist a law which prohibits a group like "save Nigeria" or any Nigerian from having access to or verifying the declared wealth or poverty of people holding political office, Nigerians can never know how saintly or sinful are their leaders.

Senator Shehu Sani, a strong advocate of the masses, believes that; “As long as Nigerians cannot walk into the office of the CCB and demand to know what is in the form filled by those they elected or appointed, the road to transparency remains a long one.

“The Senate President, who is the number 3 man in the country, is on trial; throwing flowers on him will not free him and throwing stones on him will not convict him as long as the law remains the guiding principle of his trial”, the Senate Committee Chairman on Foreign Debts stated.

Speaking further, “any public office holder who hides behind the constitutionality of secrecy and refused or opposed the Buhari example of public declaration of his assert stands on trial in the moral court of our collective conscience. Therefore, the dissolution or the amendment of the CCB and CCT Act should reflect the Senate as responsive to public opinion and people's power of which every responsible arm of democratic government must conform. It’s in line with the spirit of democratic order that the will of the people is supreme.

“It is not he who respect public opinion that is a despot but he who is antagonistic to it, Senator Shehu Sani emphasized.
