DOMESTIC ABUSE SHOULD BE VIEWED AS A CRIMINAL JUSTICE ISSUE....MRS. AMBODE

MRS. BOLANLE AMBODE
Retrace Your Steps And Leave Abusive Marriages Before It Is Too Late ……….Bolanle Ambode

By: Admin   The wife of the Lagos state Governor, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode has called on women facing battery in their matrimonial homes by their husbands, to retrace their steps and leave such abusive relationships and husbands before it becomes too late.

Mrs. Ambode made this statement against the backdrop of the alleged killing of one Mrs. Ronke Shonde by her husband, Lekan, in the Egbeda area of Lagos state while condemning the issues of domestic violence which she said has continued to rear its ugly head across the country with particular concerns to her state.

Condemning the social stigma always attached to women who quit such violent relationships, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode queried what the society would say when they are killed.

Speaking at the Government House in Alausa, Mrs Ambode made the denunciation while commenting on the alleged killing of Ronke Shonde describing it as one too many.

Describing the killing Ronke Shonde, a mother of two as totally unacceptable, the situation where a man would callously turn his wife to a punching bag on the flimsy excuse that the helpless woman had either insulted him or refused to carry out his orders is cruel and unacceptable.

“How do you explain a situation where the man you married and one who claims to love you, would descend so heavily on you at the slightest provocation. For how long will this go on?” Mrs. Ambode added.

The wife of the Lagos state Governor rejected the common excuse of societal stigmatization of women who abandoned unpleasant marriages, saying domestic abuse should be moved from being viewed as a social problem to being viewed as a criminal justice issue.
