Abubakar Bukola Saraki, Nigeria’s Senate President seems all set to dump the APC and return back to the folds of the political party that brought him to political limelight; the PDP.
NAIJNEWSALERT gathered Wednesday night that the embattled Senate President met with the PDP caucus in the Upper Chambers in the Abuja home of his Deputy, Senator Ike Ekweremadu at thye Apo Legislative Quarters.
After the meeting, the DSP led a delegation of \other senators to the Maitama residence of former President goodluck Ebele Jonathan in order to brief him over the developments.
Recall that the embattled Saraki has been facing prosecution at the Code of Conduct Bureau over charges of false declaration of assets.
A source at the meeting who spoke with naijnewsalert.com disclosed that the persecution from the leadership of the APC had compelled Saraki to chose the option of returning back to his former party which circumstances beyond his control then, had pitched him against the PDP resulting into his defection in 2014 alongside five other state governors.
The source, speaking further, told naijnewsalert.com hopes to use the move back to the PDP to actualize his political ambition and if the move is concluded, there are chances that he would do so with senators loyal to him from the platform of the APC back to the PDP. This move, surely would cause a great upset in the control of the Upper Chambers returning the control to the PDP with majority numbers.
Only last week, Bukola Saraki was reported to have travelled to Sokoto state to condole with the families of the Alhaji Umaru Shinkafi over his demise but political watchers say it was a tactical move and visit to the Sultan of Sokoto in an attempt to seek his intervention in his travails and prevail on the President to pull back his loyalists from their continued determination to send him to the goals.
Also, it could be recalled that former Presidents of the nation were in the Presidential Villa on a visit last week but part of their mission was presumably to discuss the Saraki issue. Its outcome is yet to be known.
The emergence of Saraki as Senate President against the wishes of his political party, APC for the candidate of their choice, Ahmed Lawan, had set him on the path of war which had seen several moves by the party’s hierarchy to force him out alongside his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Meanwhile, some analysts are of the belief that Saraki was never a true APC member as his heart and soul, belongs to the PDP which is his roots, politically.
