| Senate President, Bukola Saraki |
In the Senate, a lot has been happening with no respect for experience especially where a first term member in the senate is made the Minority Leader and an experienced personality in the Upper Chambers, is kept on the back seat.
If what is emanating from the National Assembly and the silence of the ruling APC are anything to go by, then, the APC is treading on a dangerous path and would soon exhaust the collective goodwill of Nigerians which it earned through the mandate it got freely in the 2015 poll.
The All Progressives Congress, APC seems to be taking a lot of bashing
from political groups and parties with the way it has been running the affairs
of the nation, in the past few months.
The recent of such bashing came in the form of a warning from the
National Conscience Party, NCP recently to the APC to stop taking Nigerians for
granted.
Following the various crises that has engulfed the National Assembly in
recent times; the NCP has challenged the APC which controls majority of the
members of the two Chambers, to urgently come up with a position in resolving
the crises in the National Assembly.

National Vice-Chairman of the National Conscience Party, NCP, Abdulwaheed Lawal, making this known recently in Calabar, Cross Rivers state during an interview segment with journalists stated that the APC government is only having its hands full with unresolved cases bordering on national issues.
According to Alhaji Abdulwaheed Lawal, the recent reconstitution of the various Committees in the Senate perceived to be some pacification of sorts to aggrieved members was a clear attempt to sweep forgery allegations besetting the leadership of the parliament, under the carpet.
“If what is emanating from the National Assembly and the silence of the ruling APC are anything to go by, then, the APC is treading on a dangerous path and would soon exhaust the collective goodwill of Nigerians which it earned through the mandate it got freely in the 2015 poll.
Speaking on the repercussions of such, the NCP chieftain noted that, “it is dangerous for the APC to abandon the forgery case. If the party does so, it stands to it stands to lose its popularity in the eyes of the world while its corruption fight will suffer a great setback. What is more corrupt than dumping a forgery case for the sake of party unity”? Abdulwaheed Lawal asked.
“It is sad that rather than hit the ground running on assumption of governance and allow policies to occupy space, the APC has consistently suffocated Nigerians with its dirty internal political wrangling”.
Lawal likened
the wailings of the APC to "Like a witch who killed her husband and wailed
the loudest”, the APC has continued to merely cry on these and many other
issues that affect national space and governance."
According to
Alhaji Lawal, "the law must be allowed to take its course on the ignoble
act of Senate Rules manipulation, regardless of Senator Oluremi Tinubu or
Kabiru Marafa getting juicy committees. If this is the essence of prosecution
of the forgery case at the initial stage, then the APC is a party of selfish
and power-mongering people.”
A visibly
angry Lawal expressed his dissatisfaction with the “sacrificing of a brilliant
and seasoned legislator such as Senator Babajide Omoworare on the altar of
settlement by a political party with a change mantra”.
“In the
Senate, a lot has been happening with no respect for experience especially
where a first term member in the senate is made the Minority Leader and an
experienced personality in the Upper Chambers, James Manager is kept on the back
seat. We will await other desperate moves anyway," Lawal fumed.
On what his
advice would be to the APC leadership, the NCP chieftain stated that they will
await the decisions of the leadership of the APC.
If the
APC-led government is bold and courageous enough to withdraw the forgery case
against the Senate President who is currently facing trial at the CCT, then it
will only go to prove that the mindset of many Nigerians.
“I am of the
opinion that withdrawing the case will cast aspersion on Buhari's administration.
Besides, it will be a mockery of the judiciary”.
The National
politics stinks, as we speak and the APC must seriously, in introspect, call
the selfish players to order before the polity implodes.
The patience of Nigerians must not be stressed too long as President Buhari takes a second look at his goodwill bank, it is now at a deficit.”
