Withdraw your Children From Private Schools……el-Rufai Tells
Govt Officials.
Senior government officials and civil servants serving in the administration of Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State have been directed to henceforth, stop sending their children and wards to private schools.
According to a directive from the state government, which will come into effect from the next academic session government, functionaries are expected to comply and ensure that their children and wards are prepared for admission into the public schools.
Senior government officials and civil servants serving in the administration of Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State have been directed to henceforth, stop sending their children and wards to private schools.
According to a directive from the state government, which will come into effect from the next academic session government, functionaries are expected to comply and ensure that their children and wards are prepared for admission into the public schools.
The state Commissioner for Education, Prof. Andrew Nock, disclosed
recently that the state government has concluded plans to restore public
schools to their past glory.
“The state government has given order to all Directors in the
state Civil Service to withdraw their children from private schools to our own schools”.
This is being done with a view to improving teaching and
learning in the schools by the el-Rufai administration which is focused on
revamping the education sector and boosting confidence within the populace.
Tasked on why similar attempts by successive administrations
to implement similar policy had failed, Professor Nock stated that “our
government is not like the previous ones. What we will do is to monitor it to
ensure that this order is carried to the latter.”
As part of the efforts to revamp the education sector in the
state, the Honourable Commissioner disclosed that fifteen (15) public
secondary schools have been converted to boarding schools with effect from the
next session.
The schools are; Queen Amina College, Kaduna; Government
Girls Secondary School, Kawo; Government Technical College, Malali; Barewa College,
Zaria; Girls Science Secondary School, Kwoi; Government College, Kagoro;
Government Girls Secondary School, Soba; Government College, Saminaka; Rimi
College; Government College, Kaduna, Government Secondary School, Kachia;
Government Girls’ College, Zonkwa and Government Secondary School, Giwa.
In order to put them these schools in proper shape and
prepare them appropriately, “plans are underway to renovate and upgrade the
hostels, library, clinics facilities and total landscaping of the schools to
give them an aura of academic environment”, the Commissioner stated.
Some of these schools were originally, boarding institutions
before they were converted to Day Schools, Professor Andrew Nok recalled.
