EFCC OPERATIVES INTERCEPT #49 AT KADUNA AIRPORT

With the diversion of flights from the Abuja International Airport to Kaduna Airport while repair works are ongoing on the runways has seen a beehive of activities springing up at the Kaduna Airport.

With upsurge in the influx of passengers comes with its attendant revelations.

According to available reports, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Tuesday, said its operatives intercepted N49 million cash at the Kaduna Airport.


The huge cash which was stashed in five 150kg bags, which bore no tags, for purposes of identification.

The disclosure was made in a statement by the Commission’s Head of Media and Publicity, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren.

According to Uwujaren, the development followed a tip-off, which operatives promptly acted upon.

He further disclosed that during examination, it was discovered that the bags contained 20 bundles of crisp N200 notes, as well as 180 bundles of N50 notes.

Uwujaren noted that the money bore seal that purportedly emanated from the Nigeria Security Printing and Minting (NSPM) Company Plc.

“Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Kaduna zonal office, on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 intercepted a sum of N49million in five large black 150kg coloured BUHU sacks following a tip off.

“During a routine baggage screening, five sacks were sighted unattended and without tags containing fresh bulk items suspected to be money.

“Upon examination, the bags were found to contain fresh crispy naira notes of N200 denomination in 20 bundles totalling forty million naira and N50 denomination in 180 bundles totalling nine million naira with seal purportedly emanating from the Nigeria Security and Minting Plc (NSPM) as seen in the labelled sealed packs.

“Investigation into the case is in top gear to unravel the culprits behind the attempted illegal movement of the cash,” Uwujaren said.
