SEGUN ONI LEADS APC FACT FINDING COMMITTEE TO KADUNA; "We Are Not Here To Pass Judgement", He Says
The crisis in the APC in Kaduna state saw Governor Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai clashing with sone leading figures within the party who had expressed their dissatisfaction wth the handling of affairs of the party and most especially, the anti-people policies being implemented which were contrary to the electoral promises made during the last election.
Arising from one of its meeting at its factional secretariat, situated at 11 Sambo road, the Hunkuyi led faction announced the suspension of the Governor and some key aides from the party. The news was yet to settle in when reports broke that the secretariat of the factional group located at Sambo road had been demolished by the government. The buiding which belonged to Senator Hunkuyi was said to be in contravention of the laws of the state concerning default on its payment in "ground rents".
Worried with the developments, a fact finding Committee has visited Kaduna state to identify the problems which is crippling its activities of the party in the state.
The 4- man Committee, led by Chief Olusegun Oni, former governor of Ekiti state visited the site of the demolished factional office whereby he disclosed that the party was worried over happenings in the state and appealed for peace while the party tries to make sure there is genuine reconcilliation.
Oni called on all aggrieved persons to embrace peace, saying that the party headquarters is unhappy that party members who are supposed to be one united family are rather, at loggerheads with one another.
He pleaded with the aggrieved members to allow his committee time to prepare its report and submit to the NWC, saying the committee will also make a copy of the findings available to the Bola Tinubu led reconciliation committee.
"We are here on a fact finding mission and not to pass judgement", Oni, who is also the Vice Chairman, South stated
"We have seen that a building was actually demolished and all these will be captured in our report to the National Working Committee".
"We plead with all parties to maintain peace and refrain from further actions that would aggraviate the problems on ground".
"It is a fact that we are all members of APC, and that even in a family, there is misuderstanding but they still find ways of resolving it. We will also do that in our party".
However, receiving the delegation, Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, revealed that other chieftains of the party such as the Acting State Chairman, Daladi Wada, Senator Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna Central Zone, Alhaji Tijjani Ramalan, Ambassador Sule Buba, Dr. Tom Maiyashi and others had waited for hours for the committee to arrive at the scheduled time and had to go for their other functions.
Senator Hunkuyi, regarded as the arrowhead of his group, expressed his disappointment with the developments considering that the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party comes up in two days but surprisingly, the elected Acting Chairman of the party in the state, Danladi Wada was not invited but rather someone else was invited and given a letter signed by the National Secretary.
"If there is true reconcilliation, then Danladi Wada should be invited to the NEC meeting because his name is in the APC and INEC database as acting chairman".
"In fairness, he should be invited to the meeting, as he is the authentic chairman".
Oni, in his response said he would table the issues before the National Working Committee and that of the NEC meeting.
"Two things will happen; it is either Danladi Wada or the other person will be invited for the meeting, or the two of them will not attend the meeting until the matter is resolved", he assured.
National Women Leader of the APC, Dr. Rammatu Tijjani who was among the delegation, apologized to members for keeping them waiting.
She explained that some of them had to fly in directly from Lagos and had to go to meet with the Governor at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House and other party members for their own side of the story as tradition demands, promising that, to compensate all members, the committee members would pass the night in Kaduna so as to enable all members meet with them throughout the night to table their grievances.
Dr. Tijjani apologised for their late arrival saying; "We are sorry for this and we take responsibility".
Notable leaders of the APC in the state have enjoined all to embrace peace while also cautioning that the party leaders are equal stakeholders who deserve respect.
In the words of James Mennaseh, the happenings in the state as regards the clash of interest between the bigwigs in the APC will not be of any benefit to the warring members.
Mennaseh, who describes himself as a foundation member, says the earlier the warring factions sheathe their swords, the better for them and the party as no house devided against itself, goes into election and comes out successful.
He advised the governor to endeavour to carry along, the party leaders, majority of whom laid the foundations for the opposition to suceed in Kaduna state. In executing his policies as Chief Executive Officer, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai must have considerations for the people he is governing and not to make life any difficult.
Alhaji Haruna Yusuf Sae'ed Kajuru, while speaking with NAIJ NEWS ALERT, noted that there is need for mutual trust and respect for the various stakeholders by those saddled with leadership positions in the party, noting that, the party cannot afford to continue like this considering that the general elections are by the corner.
"Due respect of the party's policies, programmes and manifesto must be complied with as it would not augur well for the party and its teeming members to be at loggerheads".
Sae'ed called for calm while the fact finding committee members make their reports ahead of the visit of the Bola Tinubu Reconciliation Committee.
