APC LEADERSHIP CRISES: GOVS SET TO DUMP OSHIOMHOLE FOR CLEMENT EBRI; Cite Gross Incompetence
Baring any last minute change, Governors under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC are set to dump their National Chairman, Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole.
Reports reaching Naij News Alert on Wednesday indicates that the Governors have decided to opt for a former contender for the position of National Chairman of the party, Chief Clement Ebri before the week runs out who will operate in acting capacity to run its affairs before the general elections in 2019.
This latest decision by the APC Governors is said to have been reached following allegations of "gross incompetence" levelled against the incumbent chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
According to the APC Governors, "the actions of the incumbent chairman has culminated in the party being alienated itself from its founders“.
It would be recalled that Clement Ebri was heavily favoured to become the National chairman mid year (2018) but had announced his decision to withdraw from the race, in a statement he issued.
Clement Ebri, in a statement signed and released on Tuesday, has however said that, "following deep consultations with my family, friends and associates, party leaders and stakeholders in the present calamity of our great party, the All Progressives Congress, I have decided to accept the call to duty and serve as the National Chairman of the APC".
"This decision has been taken in what I consider to be in the overall best interest of the party and my belief that, all stakeholders must row in the same rancour -free direction as we approach general elections in a few months", he said.
National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the former Interim National Chairman of the APC Chief Bisi Akande and all the APC Governors from across the country, it is gathered, have endorsed Ebri as the consensus candidate for the position, "to pull APC out of the path of doom destined for it by the former Edo state Governor, Adams Oshiomhole".
It must also be recalled that Governors on the platform of the APC have been engaged in series of meetings since last week and are said to have given their support to President Buhari to rescue the party if only for the sake of winning the 2019 polls.
It was learnt that governors who attended a crucial meeting held at the Ogun State Governor ’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja, early on Tuesday night, expressed support for an acting National chairman.
A source, who pleaded anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the meeting, said; "Ebri is having the last laugh because, many felt he was better placed to lead the APC after Chief Oyegun.
Oyo state governor, Abiola Ajimobi explained that efforts were united in favour of Ebri in order to reduce acrimony that is killing the party.
