CHOICE OF RUNNING MATE: WORKINGS OF GOVERNMENT ARE STRANGE TO YOU.. el-Rufai Responds To Critics
Against criticisms of choosing a fellow Muslim as his running mate ahead of the 2019 Governorship contest, Mallam Nasir Ahmed el-Rufai has come out to defend his choice.
According to Governor el-Rufai on Tuesday in Kaduna, has stated that the choice of Hajia Hadiza Balarabe is based on competency and capacity to deliver on the task ahead and people should not relate it to her religion or other sentiments.
el-Rufai stated this while receiving some stakeholders from Sanga Local Government Area who paid him a visit to express their appreciation on the choice of their own, as his running mate.
The Sanga stakeholders noted that the choice of their daughter was a welcomed development noting that, Governor el-Rufai must be commended for putting competence and capacity ahead of sentiments in his selections and appointments of his cabinet.
Stressing his administration's position to never choose or deny anyone appointment because of religion or ethnicity, Gov. el-Rufai stressed that the choice of a woman as his running mate, was to give women more opportunities in governance, and to break the yoke of women marginalisation in Nigeria, especially in the northern part of the country.
He added that the people criticising him on the choice of a fellow Muslim as his running mate, were those who never voted for him in 2015 and those who were strange with the workings of government.
The Kaduna state helmsman further highlighted some of the successes recorded by Dr Balarabe in her previous assignments.
El-Rufai said she has repositioned the Primary Healthcare Development Agency where she served as the Executive Secretary, as well as other duties assigned to her.
Earlier, the Paramount Ruler of Gwantu Chiefdom, Aliyu Yamma, who led the Sanga people to the Government House commended the governor for his decision.
He told Governor El-Rufai that the choice of their daughter has given the people a hope of being part and parcel of the state.
Yamma also pledged the support of the people to the governor in the general elections in 2019.
