GROUP BERATES AKWA IBOM APC OVER PROTEST AGAINST IGINI
Unwarranted APC Members Protest Against INEC REC In Akwa Ibom State, Mike Igini.
...South-South Group Berates Oshiomhole, Akpabio Over Impotent Election Rigging Strategies.
"Barrister Mike Igini, has over the years distinguished himself as a patriotic Nigerian, a forthright public servant, a trustworthy democratic and a man of exemplary character".... Barr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe.
A socio-economic and political pressure group in South-South Nigeria; Campaign for Economic Empowerment and Development of Niger Delta Region (CAMENDREG) has berated the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), over what it calls impotent pre-election rigging diversionary tactics and baseless protest by its members to shamefully justify the postponement of last Saturday presidential and National Assembly elections by the Buhari administration.
The group in a statement by its National Secretary, Barrister Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe said the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner for Akwa Ibom State, and illustrious son of Kokori in Agbon Kingdom, Delta State; Barrister Mike Igini, has over the years distinguished himself as a patriotic Nigerian, a forthright public servant, a trustworthy democratic and a man of exemplary character.
The group noted that Igini was selected in 2016 by the government of the United States of America, as one of the reliable resource persons and transparent election manager sent to Ghana, to conduct preelection assessment ahead of the country's general elections, and he gave a good account of himself.
The Ghana assignment sponsored by the United States government is a clear indication that Igini have been duly recognised and trusted by the international community as a super Nigerian with no partisan trace especially since he became INEC REC, a position he treasured dearly as a detribalised and non-partisan public servant; no trace of private affiliation with any political party, either past or present except for official reasons within the scope of the Electoral Act as amended.
Oghenesivbe further asserted that the public protest by some members of APC wherein they alleged that Igini appointed members of PDP as INEC adhoc staff for the 2019 general elections in Akwa Ibom State, amounts to petty blackmail, laughable and a show of shame typical of a political party (APC) that forced INEC to postpone last Saturday's Presidential and National Assembly elections for which Nigeria lost several billions of Naira in preparation.
He said Nigerians are aware of APC crude and vindictive politics under Adams Oshiomhole and President Muhammadu Buhari, a radical shift from issues based election to full blown use of federal might in all ramification, as can be seen from the abysmal failure and total collapse of APC national government.
"CAMENDREG hereby condemn the unwarranted protest by APC members in Akwa Ibom State, against a patriotic core Niger Deltan, Mike Igini, whom they wrongly accused to have recruited PDP members as INEC adhoc staff for 2019 general election in the state.
"Our findings revealed that INEC adhoc staff recruited in Akwa Ibom are federal civil servants and not PDP members, they have no link or personal relationship whatsoever with INEC REC, Igini.
"It is widely speculated that the public protest was masterminded by APC leadership with alleged consent and approval of Adams Oshiomhole and Senator Godswill Akpabio; two notorious trouble shooters and crude APC political warheads working against Nigerians, so as to entrench the bad and corrupt government of President Buhari in power without a corresponding performance promise.
"We know Igini to be an upright and outspoken gentleman who over the years fought vigorously against election malpractice, undemocratic forces and have etched his name in gold through quality service to the Nigerian Nation without blemish.
"We therefore urge Nigerians to ignore APC and its mischief makers, and to believe in the electoral process in the midst of massive use of coercive force, harassment and intimidation occasioned by the clueless and visionless APC government being managed by a tiny group of cabal that have consistently subjected Nigeria and Nigerians to perpetual socioeconomic slavery from May 29, 2015 till date", the statement added.
