Below
is the full text of the letter to the Delta state Governor.
His
Excellency,
Senator
Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa
Governor
of Delta State,
Asaba.
Sir,
AN
APPEAL FOR SAPELE- OKPE BORN TO EMERGE AS THE NEXT PDP STATE CHAIRMAN
Your
Excellency, we must commend you for your developmental stride across the length
and breathe of Delta State, particularly in Sapele local government.
We
also your efforts in combating the deadly Coronavirus from spreading in our
dear state through the various precautionary measures put in place to mitigate
against the potential spread of the virus.
Sir,
recall that the leadership of the Delta central PDP had zoned the position of
the state Chairman to Sapele local government and other executive positions
zoned to various local government.
Your
Excellency Sir, Sapele local government has been under the control of PDP since
the inception of democracy in 1999 till date, and as such deserve to
benefit from in the scheme of things. It is proper and for the equity sake that
a Sapele indigene should emerge at the state Congress coming up soon.
Sir,
it will be Injustice for a non-indigene of Sapele to emerge as the party state
Chairman, considering that the position has been zoned to Sapele local
government area.
"A
sad commentary is the perceived deliberate attempt to undermine the huge
support the Okpe people of Sapele have given to the PDP over the years.
It
is disheartening to hear that a non-indigene is running for the state Chairman
from Sapele there by shortchanging the Sapele-Okpe people of been part of the
state exco, knowing full well that the position has so far been zoned to Sapele
local government.
"We
are hereby calling your Excellency to look into the matter on the basis of
equity.
Your
Excellency, kindly be assured of our warm regards and our continued work for
peace and unity in Delta State and Nigeria at large.
Respectful
yours,
Comrade
Anthony O. Akpeki.
Coordinator,
Sapele Indigenous PDP Youth Ambassadors and also, former Organizing Secretary,
Sapele Local Government Chapter of the PDP.
