TIDI APPROVES MAKE SHIFT MARKETS FOR WARRI SOUTH LGA.

Following the approval of the Delta state government for the setting up of makeshift markets in the 24 Local Government Councils across the state to address issues of overcrowding in the regular markets, the Warri South Local Government Chairman, Dr. Michael Has released the list of approved 'makeshift markets'.

This is in adherence to the advisory of the World Health Organisation, WHO on ‘Social Distancing’.

A statement from the office of the Honourable Chairman, Warri South Local Government Council notes that, “in compliance with the State Government directive, the Council has approved the following public schools as makeshift markets for the lockdown period”.

The schools are as follow:

1. United College of Commerce (UCC), for the residents around Igbudu axis.

2. Ogedegbe Primary School (for residents around Merogun, Odion, Cemetery road and McDermott road).

3.  Ojojo Primary School for market road, Okere road, Warri Sapele road and Robert road.

4. Igbudu Primary School for Marine Quarters, Deco and Hausa Quarters.

5. Ighogbadu Primary School for Okumagba Avenue, Emebiren street, cinema site axis.

6. Ikegbuwa Primary School for Ajamogha, Okere and Olomu street.

7. Ogiame Primary School for Ekurede and Ugbori area

8. Isibovwe Primary School for Ekurede Urhobo, London opi and Ogiyede area.

9. Agbaje Primary School, Ugbuwangue

10. Ubeji Grammar School, Ubeji.

11. Ifie Primary School, Ifie.

12. Iginuwa Primary School, Ode Itsekiri, for Ode Itsekiri, Orugbo, Usele and Inorin.

13. Jelu Primary School, Omadino for Obodo, Oteghele, Ukpokiti, Ajasolor, Orere Oluba.

14. Edjeba Primary School, Edjeba

15. Ogunu Primary School, Ogunu .

Dr. Tidi, in the statement directed that above stated “makeshift markets” are to sell only foodstuffs and water.

According to Dr. Tidi, “the approved time for trading is between the hours of 10am to 2pm daily. Traders should please note that the council will not hesitate to confiscate goods of traders that flout the directives of the state as regards price hike by the Council Task Force”.

“The Rapid Response team and environmental department of the council will be on ground to enforce compliance of social distancing in the makeshift markets”, he stated.

The Chairman enjoined traders to abide by the relevant sanitation regulations put in place by the Council to keep the school premises clean and tidy.

“My dear people of Warri, let's stay safe at home as directed by the State Government, please”, the Chairman stressed.
