“REFRAIN FROM TAKING SIDES IN CURRENT CRISIS”….. PDP Chieftain Cautions Support Groups
“It’s important we know that support groups are children in the PDP family and, as children, we are the connectivity between the parents”...... Hon. Z. S Diwong
“If we lose our position in the party, we will become a laughing stock
and orphans”.
Following
the recent suspension of seven (7) chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP
Kaduna state chapter, youth support groups in the state seeking to show their
loyalty and allegiance to the various parties involved in the crisis, have been
asked to refrain from taking sides.
Honourable
Zachariah Sunday Diwong, Coordinator of the PDP ComeBack Mandate and also, the
Northwest Zonal Director of Turaki Youth and Women Mobilization Group gave this
advice while speaking exclusively with Naij News Alert on Monday in Kaduna.
Hon.
Diwong expressed his concerns over the ongoing internal crisis that has seen
many of the youths divided and seeking to take sides with some of the aggrieved
leaders who are either facing suspension from the state Caretaker Committee of
the party or, the leaders of the party itself, at the state level.
According
to Diwong, “after hearing heated arguments from various group leaders, I regret
to mention here that instead of our support groups to appeal for calmness and
amicable/peaceful resolution of the issue, groups are taking sides and uttering
statements capable of tearing the party apart”.
“It’s
important we know that support groups are children in the PDP family and, as
children, we are the connectivity between the parents”.
Hon.
Diwong warned that the ongoing altercation and media faceoff is capable of
further division of the party especially with loss of the 2019 elections to the
APC.
“If
we lose our position in the party, we will become a laughing stock and orphans”,
the PCM Coordinator stated.
He
appealed to all the various support groups to exercise restraint in making any
statement or showing support to any side in this situation.
Diwong
called for prayers for the leadership of the party and the peaceful resolution
of the crisis that will keep the PDP united.
“Furthermore,
I am calling on the leadership of all PDP support groups to meet and deliberate
on how to bring an end to the situation”.
“When
the support groups issue a joint statement, it will send a strong signal to our
leaders handling the situation and also to our enemies at work”.
“Support
groups should know that PDP is stronger than any individual and our groups are
formed with the interest of our party at heart and therefore, we should all pray
for a peaceful resolution of this virus/confusion in our party”, he said.
