ABUJA SLAIN VENDOR: GBAJABAMIALA PROMISES TO CATER FOR FAMILY OF IFEANYICHUKWU OKEREKE

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Right Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila, on Sunday met with newspaper distributors and vendors in Abuja over the killing of their, Ifeanyi Okereke by a security detail attached to his convoy.

The Speaker, while addressing the leaders, expressed his sadness over the death of Ifeanyichukwu, who had died from the wound sustained from the gunshot, promised to do all within his reach, to see that the family of the late vendor is well catered for.

Gbajabamiala described the incident as unfortunate and a very sad development.

Speaking at the meeting, leaders of the distributors and vendors, in their separate speeches, disclosed that Gbajabiamila had always identified with them on the streets of Abuja, noting that their recent protest on the streets of the Federal Capital was not to discredit the Speaker but to seek justice for their slain colleague and brother, Ifeanyichukwu Okereke.

It is recalled that, following the news of the death of Okereke on Thursday, at the National Hospital, Abuja, Hon. Gbajabamiala had visited the family of the slain newspaper vendor at Okereke’s family home in Kwata village in the Madalla/Suleja area of Niger State on Saturday.

Sources and other street newspaper vendors plying their trade on the Shehu Shagari Way, Three Arms Zone, revealed that vendors usually flocked around the convoy of the Speaker, who was said to be in the habit of giving out money anytime he passed them.
