OPINION: OKOWA'S LEGION OF IMPEACHABLE BREACHES AND MALFEASANCE IN DELTA STATE.

It is an incontrovertible truism that absolute powers corrupt absolutely, likewise, it is also an established fact that when people fall into slumber and inertia, government and its officials are encouraged to become very reckless, hubristic and dictatorial. 

These tendencies signpost or hallmark the telltale signs of dictatorship especially when the main sustaining ingredients of democratic governance such as, restraints, accountability, and credible opposition disappear from the democratic space.

While many uninformed people may be quick to place the burden of the degenerative rot Deltans have found themselves in on the shoulders of Dr. Okowa and his predecessors, yours truly is of the firm opinion that all Deltans are collectively culpable for making our leaders become demi - gods in one form or another.

However, the slumber, inertia, and connivance from the political circle, most especially from the opposition political parties in the state who are expected to ventilate divergent views and alternative policies they wish to pursue to best the government in power are the biggest culprits in this odious reticence, which has left Deltans with no clear alternative to Dr Okowa and his PDP boogeymen.

The taciturnity and habitual reticence to confront the myriad tales and woes of misgovernance, wanton misappropriation, crass and gross impunity and infantile celebration of pedestrian works and projects as achievements and dividends of democracy, inexorably lead to the conclusion that the leadership of the main opposition party -- APC in Delta state are either very timorous, yellow, fifth columnist or do not have a different template of policies from the ones being wickedly dished out to Deltans by the Dr Okowa led PDP. 

Little wonder then that, Dr Okowa has continued to unabatedly act with impunity and derisiveness to the wants and yearnings of Deltans. Hence, he can also  afford to malevolently ignore the deplorable and dilapidated infrastructure dotting every nook and cranny of Delta state, while deploying humongous funds meant for the infrastructural and human capacity development of Delta state to fix roads in Igbanke in Edo state, a state clearly outside the purview of his electoral mandate and the budgetary approval of the state house of Assembly.

Unfortunately, the Delta State House Of Assembly appears  compromised and populated by  with wimps who have abdicated their oversight functions of checkmating the excesses of the executive arm of government for paltry handouts and filthy lucre. This shameless House could even be goaded by the governor to happily pass an instrument into law to legitimize this Igbanke heist and many other such malfeasance presented to them for sanctification. Thus, with the character and disposition of the clowns cloaked as legislators coupled with the over compromised anti - corruption agencies, whose leadership are notorious for hounding eat alone thieves, unlike the magnanimous Robin Hoods in Delta state state who are globally famous for slashing largesse to have their ways. As such, sooner  or later, this Igbankegate will be forgotten with no sanction visited on imperial Okowa even if the most substantiated petition is presented before the anti - corruption Czars.

It is also instructive to aver that our misfortunes as Deltans has the endorsement of the judiciary who has  consistently abetted  electoral fraud in Delta state -- the main vehicle catapulting our Robin Hoods to government, but they also deliberately re- write the laws of our country in their often warped and sleeced induced interpretations of the laws designed to expose electoral frauds and engender accountability in government. Only in the two past election cycles, the courts from lowest to the highest pontificated on the smart card reader innovation for transparent elections by holding strangely in contravention of section 160 of the Constituttion and the provisions in the electoral act which birthed the smart card reader innovation, that voting carried out in breach of the smart card reader reading is of no consequence and cannot be a basis to void an election.

In the face of these connivance and conspiracies by institutions which are supposedly the pride of democratic culture in other climes,  Deltans may be left with only on option and the option best suited for such exigencies is a holistic change of attitude. Now is the time to abandon the clan of looters and professional politicians who consistently impoverish us with stomach infrastructure during election years and jettison us like floatsams afterwards. Let us begin an honest search for men with untainted impeccable integrity. We must court them and encourage them to participate in government at the highest level. Such high impact  men are renowned for success and entrepreneurial excellence in their private business endeavours and unsullied integrity, they are the only viable window left for us to explore and throw off the yoke of oppression and misgovernance foisted on the good people of Delta state by a  clique of occultic power drunk Robin Hoods.
