GODWIN ADODE: REDEFINING RESPONSIBLE LEADERSHIP IN LOCAL GOVT COUNCIL ADMINISTRATION

Development of any society and its citizenry begins from the lower level of the state, which, in the Nigeria state, is the Local Government Area Council that relates directly with the electorates. This is not to imply that this level has only the poor of the society but in all honesty, this is where genuine and true governance is determined.

Local Government administration requires sustainable leadership qualities that will enable growth, development and empowerment of the people and this in turn, resonates with the leadership at the state and federal levels of governance.

In Delta state, specifically, Ughelli North Local Government Area, true governance is been displayed by the Executive Chairman of the Council, Rotarian Godwin Adode; a God-fearing personality who has consistently shown his critics and admirers alike, that in spite of the prevailing challenges across the country, quality service to the people is achievable if one is determined to serve and deliver democratic dividends to the electorates.

Not only has Hon. Godwin Adode delivered his electoral promises to the people of Ughelli North, he has carved a niche for himself as one man with a listening ear, an open door-policy and the ability to put a smile on the faces through his various empowerment programmes to indigent members of the society, not minding the personal inconveniences to himself.

From his social welfare programmes through to educational, health and community development improvements, the Executive Chairman of the Ughelli Local Government Council has endeared himself to many across the locality including neighbouring LGAs where his colleagues see him (Adode) as the leading figure in quality and sustainable governance.

The Council Chairman, in seeing to the health needs of the people and the community, upgraded Ughelli North Central Hospital with the construction of toilet facilities to cater for the needs of patients and also, donated hospital equipment and equally offset medical bills of some indigent persons. In the area of healthy and safe living, the provision portable drinking water through the installation of mono pumps across the LGA, is viewed as a huge plus to his administration.

His social welfare programmes also saw over one hundred and fifty women receiving financial empowerment that would enable them become self reliant in the society.

In ensuring the financial well being of the people in the LGA, through his policy of; “do not give the people fish to eat but teach the people how to fish”, Hon. John Adode has organized ”skill acquisition programmes with over three hundred persons benefiting from starter packs  issued them at the end of the trainings.

Educationally, Primary school pupils in the LGA have also benefited from the largesse of the Adode administration with the construction of a six classrooms block with modern facilities, donation of classroom desks in a bid at creating the right learning environment for the pupils. Members of the National Youth Service Corps in the council area also benefited in the generosity of the Adode administration as the “Corpers Lodge received a facelift through the construction of perimeter fence, provision of sleeping materials and a generating set”.      

Rehabilitation works were executed on several roads in Ughelli North LGA, namely; Esegine, Uduere, Aroh, Makolomi, Upper Afiesere junction, Afiesere streets, the construction of Shokare street, off Upper Agbarho and the construction of concrete rail guard on the Agbsarho bridge, were undertaken by the John Adode led administration.

The Legislative arm of government in the council also received attention with the renovation and furnishing of the structure.

In terms of the provision of security to lives and properties of the citizenry, the John Adode led administration has been scored high as it has brought to a stop, attacks by armed fulani herdsman in Uwheru, Agadama, Ohoro and Ogor communities. Issues of insecurity have all received adequate attention as people are now free to go about their various means of livelihood while community crises are now outdated.

While some people have tried desperately cast aspersions on his person, Honourable Godwin Adode believes that those trying to discredit his administration are only doing so to distract him from his set goal which is to deliver positively on the vision and mission of His Excellency, Senator (Dr.) Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, the Executive Governor of Delta State.

As a Sports loving personality, John Adode has organized series of sporting competition amongst the seven (7) kingdoms that make up the Ughelli North Local Government Council.

Does this man deserve the support for another term in office, the answer has been a resounding “YES”.
