CULTISM ON DELTA STATE: UPU Worldwide Youth Wing President Brokers Peace

After five hours of serious brainstorming and critical discussion with stakeholders and representatives of the two rival cult groups (Eiye and Bagger) in Abraka Community of Delta state, a peace agreement was brokered. 

This was the disclosure of the Worldwide President of the Youth Wing of the Urhobo Progress Union; Umbrella body of all Urhobos, Comrade Efemena Kelly Umukoro on Thursday.

Comrade Umukoro, while fielding questions to journalists in Abraka, disclosed that he had never wanted to get himself involved in the feud following the death of a bosom friend, Austyne Emu.

”I never wanted to get involved in the settlement of the above crisis due to the death of my friend and brother, late Austyne Emu. But while I was away, I received several calls from leaders and stakeholders of the university town requesting for me and others to bring out a framework to settle the crisis and to stop any further cult clash in the once peaceful Abraka Community”.

"Leadership is all about taking responsibilities hence I decided to take up the task despite my anger against the attitude of these young men who no longer see live as anything useful". 

He revealed that, “As the President of Urhobo Youths Worldwide, I sponsored the meeting of settlement and used the opportunity to advise the youths against cultism and the need for everyone to tolerant one another”.

'If we can't live together in peace, we shall die foolishly”, he warned.

“I must thank the Anti-cult Commandant, Comrade Ufuoma Oghenede who flew in from Lagos State because of this crucial meeting. It goes to show his readiness to sustain peace in the University town”. 

Umukoro, a respected personality among youths and the elderly, further disclosed that, “at the end of the meeting we took some sensitive decisions which we believe will help to put a final stop to cultism in Abraka and beyond.

Pressed for more information, Chief Efemena Umukoro declined comment saying the decisions are too sensitive to be in the public domain. 

Stakeholders present blamed drugs abuses as one of the reasons why youths no longer have tolerance for one another. Hence, they appealed that as decision makers, “we look deep into the issue to ensure that we sensitize the youths against it  and also join law enforcement agents to fight against Drug Abuses in our society”.
