OVER 300 CHILDREN IN KADUNA GET FREE RICKET SURGERY

Hope for the Village Child, a Kaduna based Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) located in the Chikun Local Government Council area of the state has disclosed that over three hundred children suffering from rickets, have been offered free surgery.

This was the disclosure of the Head, Special Needs Unit of the organisation, Mr Micheal Ogundele.

Ogundele, fondly refered to as "Baba Yara" stated this recently in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, monitored in Kaduna.

According to Baba Yara, "We have offered free Rickets surgery to 300 children and we have almost 4,000 that are currently on drugs in the organization".

"The Hope for the Village Child Foundation is promoting the dignity of the village child and carrying out programme for women youths and children", he said.

"We give hope to less privileged children and children with disabilities in the society", the Special Needs Unit head revealed.

Throwing more light on the organisation's women empowerment programme, Mr. Ogundele disclosed that the "Hope for the Village Child Foundation" works with women groups from various communities and offers them, soft loans to enable them become self-reliant and be able to support their families.

“A lot of women have been empowered. We give soft loan every year in different communities. We have up to 25 women in groups and after three years, we collect the money to give to another group".

“We carry out a programme called 'Child Clinic' every Wednesday, when children are brought from different communities for immunization, while every Friday, pregnant women come for their antenatal care,", he explained.

"Under one of our programmes called the 'Sustainable Livelihood Programme', youths are trained on latest mechanized farming methods and at the end of the training, soft loan are also given to some selected youths", he further stated.

"The beneficiaries are also encouraged to step-down the training and demonstrate to their various communities".

"In our education department, the organization has sponsored a lot of the less privileged children from primary, secondary up to high institution".

"The HVCF, through the efforts made, has a young man studying Law at University of Jos and another at Faith Academy with four others studying in Kaduna state".

"The HVCF, as an organization, also visits the various communities outside it's immediate locality, to teach young children how to read and write as well as teach them on how to make local craft. We also set up eight youths in business and skills".

"Some of them are into shoe making while some are into trading and they have their shops and are all doing well", Ogundele said.
