Astute Leadership And A Deep Sense Of Humility: A Rejoinder To Leadership As Demonstrated By A Congressman And The Prime Minister of Great Britain, Boris Johnson. By David Adenekan.

"I have not heard President Muhammadu Buhari telling the people he governed, "I AM SORRY" for all the killings, maiming, raping and destruction of properties perpetrated by his kinsmen, Fulani Herdsmen".... David Adenekan.

Contrary to the demonstration of leadership qualities in the video clip above, is it not only in many part of Africa that we jettisons astute leadership for religious sentiment and cultural rhetorics?

Can any of our congressmen or senators in Nigeria take the bull by the horn and speak the bitter truth to President Muhammadu Buhari the way that congressman in the house of common did? 

Also, look at the level of humility displayed by the Prime Minister of Great Britain, Boris Johnson. Is this not a testimony to the fact that as a leader you owe the people an unreserved apology  whenever the people you are elected or called to govern express deep disappointment over your leadership ability? 

Yes, the words "I am sorry" was not too heavy to say by Boris Johnson, the Honourable Prime Minister of Great Britain. 

Suffice to say that I have not heard President Muhammadu Buhari telling the people he governed, "I AM SORRY" for all the killings, maiming, raping and destruction of properties perpetrated by his kinsmen, Fulani Herdsmen. 

Moreover, did Muhammadu Buhari express his condolences to the families of the victims that were brutally murdered by his supporters when he lose the 2011 presidential election to former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan? 

Did he not declare a Jihadist war and emboldened the irate mob in the north to embark on killing sprees against innocent citizens? 

Did he ever admit or take responsibility for all the wrongdoings in his administration? 

Hmmm, what a parallel distinction between Boris Johnson and Muhammadu Buhari! 

Is it not also true that speaking the truth to power in Nigeria is seen as a deviant behavior and you stand a chance of getting your fingers burnt? 

Are many right activists not cooling their heels in jail for daring to speak to power? A classic example of the likes of  Comrade Omoyele Showore who are now being technically incarcerated for speaking the truth to power. 

The travesty of justice begins when the citizens cannot speak to power. 

Frankly speaking, the true definition of democratic leadership is when we give room for dissent opinion and allow them to be part of the decision making process. It makes the opposition party feels a sense of belonging and afford them the opportunity to form an alternative government. This will in effect deepening our democracy.  

What we saw in the video clip above is astute leadership with a deep sense of humility. 

Yes, a responsive and responsible leadership indeed!
