FRESH $4BN, £700M LOAN REQUEST: IPN Frowns At Buhari's Letter To National Assembly For Approval

"Mr President cannot be borrowing at this time of his stage in the presidential seat. What the President should be focusing on, is tidying up his table to ensure that he covers the loopholes".

 

The request by Nigeria's President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari to obtain a fresh loan of about Four Billion United States Dollars and another Seven Hundred Million British Pounds, has generated reactions from Nigerians and stakeholders alike.

The Nigerian President is seeking for the approval of the Senate and further increase the debt burden of the country from #33trn.

This request has been condemned by concerned nigerians following the inability of the APC led administration to account for the over #33trn so far borrowed and unaccounted for, with the nation further embroiled in serious security challenges that has crippled the country.

Adding its voice to the series of condemnation of this new request is a group, under the aegis of the Indigenous People of Nigeria, IPN, led by its Convener, Mazi Nnamdi Dickson Iroegbu.

The IPN, in a statement issued and signed by its Convener, "the IPN strongly condemns the attempt by President Muhammadu Buhari to borrow out of the future of our children and children's children, after wasting that of the present generation". 

"We hereby call on the National Assembly to throw the letter away through the window and reject the request by President Buhari", the IPN appealed. 

"Mr President cannot be borrowing at this time of his stage in the presidential seat. What the President should be focusing on, is tidying up his table to ensure that he covers the loopholes, because, Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora are aware of his ineptitude and mishandling of the insecurity and economic sectors, which are the primary duties of every government, and poor anti-corruption campaign". 

"The President, who knows that he has failed the people, should be made to realise that it is anti-people to reinforce failure. Being a retired military General, Mr President will agree to this". 

"We once again reject Mr President's demand for $4 billion and a separate €704 million. We call for the occupation of the National Assembly should they proceed to approve this unpatriotic loan request".

Many have expressed sadness on the manner the leadership of the National Assembly has conducted itself and making it, not just a rubber-stamp National Assembly but an extension e the Executive.

The Lawal led Senate has virtually given approval to all of the request by Muhammadu Buhari without an assessment of the viability of these loans and this has made stakeholders see the NASS as working in cahoots with the Presidency to further impoverish Nigerians and Nigeria.

In his statement, the IPN Convener urged well meaning Nigerians to see the fight to stop any further loans by the Buhari administration as a collective struggle by all, and not for the IPN alone.

N"must resist this new loan request by the Buhari Presidency lest Nigeria ends up being sold off to the highest bidder", Iroegbu stated.
