IMPOSITION OF LEVY ON POS OPERATORS, CONDEMNABLE AND INSENSITIVE... Says Activist

Residents and stakeholders in Udu Local Government Council Area of Delta State have called out the Executive Chairman of the Council, Hon. Jite Brown concerning the imposition of levies of #2,000 on Point Of Sale operators.

Describing the levy as outrageous and highly condemnable, Comrade Rufus Ibebe Akpobome, political activist and critic, noted that imposing such a levy on hapless residents battling to eke a living in spite of the harsh economic situation is most inconsiderate by those elected to represent the people.

"We are complaining that Ethiope East Local Government Area is collecting Five Thousand Naira from POS Operators in their LGA as ANNUAL LEVY little did we know that UDU LGA would come up with a LEVY OF TWO THOUSAND NAIRA MONTHLY from POS operators in their LGA's", Ibebe fumed.

"That means a POS Operator in UDU LGA would part away with TWENTY FOUR THOUSAND NAIRA  annually as levy, for an LGA that cannot guarantee the security of the life and property of its resident, cannot influence or provide electricity for such a resident".

Comrade Ibebe wondered why the Council boss would even initiate such a levy when the Community is plagued with bad roads and lacking of basic health care facilities and services.

He further slammed the Council boss over his inability to be accountable and lacking in financial prudence on levies so far collected by his administration.

Comrade Rufus Ibebe however appealed to ALL POS OPERATORS in these Local Government Areas and any other LGA were such outrageous levy for this purpose would be implemented to come together to publicly and peacefully protest against this broad daylight stealing.

"Yes, this is broad daylight robbery because, these collection of levies becomes stealing if they are not accounted for or used for the purpose for which they are meant for", Ibebe stressed.

"This is bad and should be condemned by all well meaning Deltans", he concluded.
