US ARMY CAPTAIN, BISH JOHNSON (Rtd) CONDEMNS DEHUMANIZATION OF FEMALE CORPS MEMBER... Says The Conduct Of That Particular Officer Does Not In Any Way Represent The General Conduct Of Officers Of Nigerian Army,

 
"I am saddened with what I witnessed in the video where a commissioned female Nigerian Army Lieutenant abused and dehumanised a female National Youth Service Corp member".... Bish Johnson.

The viral video of a female member of the National Youth Service Corps being dehumanized by an Army Officer has continued to generate reactions and condemnations.

Adding his voice to the barrage of condemnations is Captain Bish Johnson (Retd) of the United States army who is also, a security expert presently based in Nigeria.

Bish Johnson, who is a traditional title holder, in a statement issued, expressed his sadness over the unfortunate incident, describing it as unexpected of a commissioned Lieutenant and an Officer in the Nigerian Army.

"I am saddened with what I witnessed in the video where a commissioned female Nigerian Army Lieutenant abused and dehumanised a female National Youth Service Corp member". 

"As a former commissioned Army Officer of the United States Army, the conduct I saw on that video is unbecoming of an officer and in complete aberrant to the oath of office of any military officer, regardless of country of service", Capt. Johnson stated. 

"I know that the conduct of that particular officer does not in any way represent the general conduct of officers of Nigerian Army, most of whom are very fine and well behaved in their dealings with their fellow citizens". 

"However, this behavior as aberrant as it was, was one too many and therefore, indicative of a culture in our services", he stressed.

Speaking on the probe panel as set-up by the Nigerian Army, retired Captain Bish Johnson said;  "The probe panel set up is a welcomed one as everyone regardless of the gravity and circumstances of their crime or offense deserves to be afforded the right to explain themselves and answer to their deeds. My hope is that this probe does not end where other probes in this country have ended; dead in the shelve".

"To avoid this, I call on our media people to focus their eagle eyes on this particular probe to ensure that justice is done. This rascality of people who wear our uniforms and who are paid salaries with our tax money must stop". 

"The culture in our services that have fostered this kind of behavior by our service personnel should be reviewed and appropriate policies and measures put in place to ensure that no Nigerian suffers any form of abuse in the hands of our personnel".

"I don't know where else this young Army Lieutenant who probably just graduated from Military Academy learnt this bad behavior if not in our military training facility, which is why it's imperative that those whose responsibilities it is to design the training curriculum of cadets and those whose job it is to train them, should ensure that the cadets understand the need to respect their fellow citizens, respect their rights and accord them the dignity they deserve as humans", he said.

"The behavior of that Officer was despicable and she should be held to account as an individual".

"We reject lawlessness in our country be that by uniform personnel or ordinary citizens", Capt. Bish Johnson concluded in his statement.
