2023 PRESIDENCY: Will Atiku Accept The Position Offered To Him By PDP Governors To Drop His Ambition ?

"Some PDP Governors are planning a fresh move to ensure the presidential ticket of the party comes to the South for the sake of equity and fairness. Consequently, they have resolved to offer Atiku Abubakar the role of the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) to ease their plans." Sources say.
Former vice President, Atiku Abubakar has been strongly rumoured to be nursing another ambition to contest the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of 2023 presidential election. However, it appears Governors of the PDP may not be in support of his ambition to clinch the presidential ticket of the party for the second time in a row after flying the party’s flag in 2019.
According to the Thisday newspaper, some PDP Governors are planning a fresh move to ensure the presidential ticket of the party comes to the South for the sake of equity and fairness. Consequently, they have resolved to offer Atiku Abubakar the role of the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) to ease their plans. The chairman of the PDP BoT is currently occupied by Senator Walid Jubrin. His tenure according to the report will end in 2023 before the general elections.
The PDP Governors according to their calculations believe the role of the Chairman of the PDP BoT would be best fit for Atiku because of his age and the agitations for power shift to the South by the Southern Governors. Atiku will be 77 by 2023. The Governors believe Nigerians might not accept such an old presidential candidate. Meanwhile, the Governors also fear that PDP might lose the sympathy of Nigerians if it chooses a Northern presidential candidate and APC picks its presidential candidate from the South.
Will Atiku accept the Governors offer and drop his ambition?
The former vice President has not formally announced his presidential ambition, so his plans for 2023 is not clear yet. However, his body language appears to show that he will run for president in 2023.
Considering how his support group led by High Chief Raymond Dokpesi has been going round the country to gather support for his ambition, I doubt if he will accept the offer proposed by the Governors to drop his purported ambition.
