The Delta State Chairman of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, Comrade Elder (Chief) Edariese A. P. today urged the Delta State Government to ban the use of commercial tricycles popularly known as Keke from carrying loads tied to the sides on our roads forthwith.

Comrade Edariese made the call as he escaped a near fatal accident on top of ,,, Rail flyover near Ujevwu on the 14th of January 2022 in a chat with newsmen at his residence in Owhase Community in Udu Local Government Area, Delta State.

The Human Rights Activist stated that the act commercial tricyclists carrying loads which pick ups are supposed to carry are posing serious dangers to the lives of citizens of the Country along major roads.

He said the relevant government agencies responsible for safety measures on the roads, had not lived up to their expectations.

Comrade Edariese who tendered photographs of the menace a commercial tricycle posed to his life and that of other citizens recently, frowned at the nonchalant attitude of the Government Agencies charged with the responsibility of ensuring safety on the roads by allowing tricycles (Keke) to carry loads that trailers are supposed to carry so that whatever happens becomes the lot of Nigerians which can invariably affect members of the Security Agencies for which they sworn on oath to protect.

Narrating his experience, Comrade Edariese said,"On the 13th of January,2022 I was going to Ewu Community for the inauguration of CDHR. At the railway flyover, before Ujevwu, I encountered this situation.

"I saw this Keke trying all these at each sides. Getting to this point, the rubber(rope) cut.

"The load poured on the ground. This posed danger for other road users behind and those coming from opposite direction including himself.

"The Keke I chattered was, it was a narrow escape we didn't had a scratch."

According to Edariese,"If what Satan arranged had taken place, there would have been so many deaths of citizens including myself on the Keke.

"Government Agencies responsible for safety measures had lived up to their expectations.

"The Police, Federal Road Safety Corps and VIO are on road daily yet this practice goes on unabated. Such that Keke now compete with the load a trailer can carry. These must stop.

"This has given evidence that the Police,FRSC and VIO are only going to the road to extort money from motorists without considering the dangers it will cause to human lives.

Comrade Edariese also called on the Delta State Commissioner of Police,CP Ari Muhammed Ali, the Commander of FRSC as well as Traffic managers in the State to put an end to the menace caused by commercial tricycles in Delta State roads.
