With the issue of insecurity attaining frightening dimensions across the country, only a few have shown the level of bravery in the face of death and life threatening situations, deserving of commendations and if necessary, become a recipient of a national award.

One of such persons is the teacher who sacrificed his life for that of his students in Federal government College Birnin Yauri, Kebbi state. 

He is Mallam Mukhtar Gulma, who, in the face of death when armed bandits stormed the school and abducted students, requested the bandits to allow the students go and instead, take him. Or, in the alternative, take him along with his students which they did. Mallam Mukhtar was however, only recently released with his students a couple of days ago after spending days with their captors.    

“I hope when a book about courageous people in Nigeria is written one day, no doubt the name of Mallam Mukhtar Gulma will be given a mention with esteem and gratitude. He is prepared to die for the sake of his pupils. He is worthy of emulation any day, any time, and anywhere in the world.” A concerned nigerian stated.

“He did what the toughest people in history cannot do. Only men of courage and faith can boldly do what he did. Mallam Mukthar Gulma's rare courage need to go viral in all our media outfits. It is a lesson of sacrifice to be taught to our children and coming generations.”
