JULIUS BERGER BRIDGE PARTIALLY COLLAPSES IN RIVERS STATE .... Scare, Pandemonium As Rumuokwurusi Bridge Under Construction Faces Partial Collapse

Construction giant, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc is presently under fire and huge criticism following the partial collapse on Sunday, of one of the bridges undergoing construction in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

The bridge, identified as the Rumuokwurusi flyover which was said to have been contracted to Julius Berger February this year, was reportedly due for completion by the end of August, 2022.

Eyewitnesses at the site revealed that some clearance work by an excavator, operated by a staff, was being done around a supporting beam and it reportedly knocked it, causing some shift and imbalance, resulting to the entire portion to sink below.

The commotion, according to people who witnessed the development disclosed that it created widespread panic in the immediate vicinity and beyond.

Although no injuries or lives were lost during the mishap, the development attrected a huge crowd, including experts in the state to raise a query and a string call for "a special infrastructural audit of the company's works, including their roads, bridges and buildings to determine their quality and the standard of materials being used by Julius Berger."

Stakeholders within the state also raised queries as it relates to the calibre of the personnel of the firm working on the project site.

"If it is true that a worker was using some machinery to do some work and accidentally knocked off the affected beam, it means that staff and indeed, all of them working on that site are incompetent."
