Power, Staff Accommodation, NMU's Biggest Challenges, Prof. Adigio Laments

The Vice Chancellor of the Nigerian Maritime University, NMU, Prof. E.M.  Adigio today said power, with staff accommodation are the biggest challenges staring the University at the face.

Prof. Adigio disclosed this at a press briefing held at the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Warri Correspondents' Chapel.

While noting that it is difficult to generate power for twenty four hours per day, Prof. Adigio said they have tried to intervene by bringing solar energy to generate power for the school.

He explained that the solar power provided by the institution is used in powering some structures and office equipments at the administrative building.

Prof. Adigio pointed out that they needed funds to sustain the power generation in the institution.

He said the situation is even more challenging due to the recent hike in petroleum products.

Prof. Adigio, who was flanked by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. I.C. Ogwude, Prof. Christopher Orubu (Sabbatical) and Dr. Tolumoye J. Tuaweri, Ag, DAP, said the University is doing all it can to reduce the cost of running the issue of power generation.

He also gave a steward account of his administration in the University in the past five years, stressing that, the institution had also provided a 200KVA generator with which it provides water for the University Community. 

Prof. Adigio thanked the Okenrenkoko Community for helping the institution in several ways just as he urged them to do more.

According to him, "Accommodation is our biggest problem we have here."

He said they have written to the relevant agencies to help them build structures at the institution, adding that they have also built some hostels with the efforts of the Federal Government of Nigeria. He stressed that, more interventions are coming.
