Delta State Governor, Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa today said the reason why they have not renovated the Warri township stadium is because there is a drainage problem.
Governor Okowa spoke at a People's Democratic Party, PDP rally held at the Warri Stadium today.
He explained that if they had commenced work on the project, it would not work.
Governor Okowa also said his administration instead embarked on the construction of drainages around Warri before they will embark on work of the stadium itself.
According to Governor Okowa, "We want to do a job that will last," adding that they awarded a contract of 19billion naira for the renovation works of the Warri township stadium which is ongoing.
While noting that construction works at the drainage is about 70%, Governor Okowa stressed, "it's only 30% work that is left before works will commence at the Stadium.
He vowed that he will be the one to pay for the works done on the Warri Township Stadium because he does not want to incur debts for his predecessor.
Governor Okowa pointed out that the chairs, surfaces and other facilities at the stadium will be replaced.
Governor Okowa also said the Asaba township stadium was constructed with the sum of two billion, nine million naira.
While thanking party faithfuls for their supports for the PDP in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, Governor Okowa also begged the people of Warri to vote enmass for the PDP Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and himself as Vice President in the 2023 elections.
He added that the people should also vote Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori as the next governor of the State along side other candidates for other elective positions.
Earlier, former Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Ewetan Uduaghan had appealed to Governor Okowa to renovate the Warri township stadium.
According to Dr. Uduaghan, "if you do something about this, we are all going to be excited."
Dr. Uduaghan who pointed out that the drainage system in the stadium is very challenging, said; "There will be a problem if you don't do something about it. We will be very excited."
Dr. Uduaghan also canvassed votes for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Sen. Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa,PDP Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates, Delta State PDP Governorship Candidate, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and all PDP candidates in the forthcoming general elections. "We must vote for our governor to be Vice President of Nigeria."
Dr. Uduaghan urged the people to vote for the Umbrella which is the symbol of the PDP in the election.
The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori also gave the assurances that work on the Warri township stadium will commence January 2023.
He said, "I will be the one to pay the contractor."
