EXOTIC CARS, BIKERS PARADE TURNS DISASTER .... Eight Dead, Several Others Wounded In Calabar

The flag-off of the Bikers and Exotic Cars Parade, which is part of the events leading to Wednesday’s Carnival, 28 December 2022 in Calabar, has lead to the death of about eight persons while unconfirmed number of persons sustained various degrees of injuries.

Sources at the car/bikers parade revealed that an unregistered exotic vehicle that participated in the event, reportedly lost control and rammed into spectators at the Bogobiri axis of the carnival route, inhabited mainly by the Hausa and Fulani natives.

The victims of the crash were however, rushed to Navy Reference hospital, Calabar for medical attention. Sadly, this unfortunate and untoward incident brought to an abrupt end, the event.

Residents of the Bogobiri community, made up of mostly Hausas and Fulanis reportedly rose up in angry protests but law enforcement agencies on ground had to deploy the use of tear gas to disperse them.

Sources who were there to observe the exotic cars and bikers parade, pitched the blame of the incident on poor crowd control management.
