Subsequent on the orders and directives of the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Command Headquarters Asaba, CP Ari Muhammed Ali FCIA, psc+ to Heads of Tactical Commands to immediately tackle the menace of cult groups especially in Sapele and environs, Operatives of the Special anti-cult unit operatives of the Department of State Service, DSS, and men of Operation Delta Hawk have arrested a suspected financier of the Aro Bagger cult group in Sapele.
The alleged financier, identified as Chief Joseph Ologbo, aged 37yrs and resident of of Otor Community in Sapele LGA was reportedly arrested in a hotel, (names withheld) with incriminating items and weapons.
According to the Spokesperson of the Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, in a statement on Wednesday, January 25, "the suspect who was arrested in a hotel was found in possession of incriminating items and weapons.
"Sequel to the Cult clashes in Sapele, Oghara and some other parts of the State, the Commissioner of Police Delta State CP Ari Muhammed Ali FCIA, psc+ deployed tactical teams to Sapele LGA to restore sanity in the affected areas."
"Consequently, on the 23/01/2023 at about 2000hrs, acting on credible intelligence on an alleged sponsor of Aro bagger cult group and also an active member of the group, a combined team of the Command Special Anti-Cult Unit (SACU), operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) and men of Operation Delta Hawk, stormed the above mentioned Hotel, trailed and arrested one Chief Joseph Ologbo ‘m’ 37yrs of Otor Community in Sapele LGA, a renowned suspected financer and member of Aro Bagger cult group,"

Similarly, a gang of four (4) young men that specialize in fake online transactions have been apprehended.

DSP Edafe, in the statement, disclosed that the arrest of the four man syndicate on the 22/01/2023 at about 0800hrs, was led by ASP Julius Robinson alongside operatives of Decoy Squad while acting on a credible intelligence of a syndicate who specializes in defrauding unsuspecting victims of their hard earned money.
"The operatives stormed Ogwashi-Uku town and arrested the following suspects; (1) Allison Louis ‘m’ 27yrs a native of Numan LGA of Adamawa state, (2) Sunday David ‘m’ 22yrs a native of Oturkpo Benue state, (3) Peter Akagbai ‘m’ 20yrs from Umuokwe Quarters of Ogwashi-Uku and (4) Chibuzor Elumeze ‘m’ 23yrs from Ogbenta-Obi Quarters in Ogwashi-Uku.
"Exhibits recovered from the syndicate includes one (1) tricycle, fifteen (15) different bank ATM cards.
"During the course of the investigation, the suspects confessed to a series of fraud committed within Ogwashi-uku and Asaba metropolis with POS operators and filling stations as their major victims.
"The suspects stated that they go to filling stations, POS operators and super markets, purchase items and also make withdrawals with the ATM cards and then call their banks and give a false complaint that the transaction was not successful. The banks without due investigation will then wrongly debit the victims and credit the accounts of the suspects. They have so far defrauded their various victims several millions of naira.
"Investigation is ongoing." The statement concluded.
Meanwhile, sources in Sapele have appealed to the Delta State Police Command Headquarters in Asaba to go after other financiers in Sapele and environs who are the bigger fishes and sponsors as "the arrested suspect is but a smaller fly in the pan" if they truly want to restore peace and tranquility in the affected communities and towns.
The sources, who pleaded not to be mentioned, commended CP Ari Mohammed Ali and his team for taking the bold step to rid the state of criminal elements but in the same vein, urged the police and other security agencies to go after the ring leaders who have turned these once peaceful cities and communities into a killing field.
