TCN RECONNECTS KADUNA, KANO DISCOS TO NATIONAL GRID AS MINISTER INTERVENES

Following several days of blackout, respite seems to be coming through for residents of Kaduna, Kano and some other states as three defaulting Distribution Companies supplying Kaduna, Kano states were reportedly reconnected to the National Grid.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) in a statement issued by the Marketing  Officer, TCN Engr. Dr. E.A Eje and made available to journalists by the General Manager, Public Affairs Unit, Ndidi Mbah, says it will reconnect the three Distribution Companies earlier disconnected from the national grid for non compliance with market rules.

Kano DisCo (KEDCO), Kaduna Electric (KAEDCO) and APLE Electric were disconnected by the TCN, a situation which plunged consumers and customers into total and partial darkness for days.

Engr Edmund Eje, Market Operator, TCN in the statement released in Abuja on Sunday, said that the DisCos would be reconnected by midnight on May 1.

Eje further revealed that the reconnection follows on the intervention of the Honourable Minister of Power, Mr Abubakar Aliyu.

"The TCN agreed to restore power supply to the DisCos in view of the collateral consequences on paying customers." He said.

He however said that the disconnected defaulting market participants have only 60 days within which to honour their obligations to the market operator.
