Delta: Public School Teachers Engage In Business Inside Schools ..... Allegedly Trade In Classrooms As Student Roam Streets

In some public schools in Delta State particularly within Warri South, Uvwie and Udu Local Government Area, teachers trade inside classrooms to detriment of their students. 

It is time to say it as it once again no matter whose ox is gored. 

Reports from our Correspondent revealed that the teachers are only interested in the daily profits they can make and not to teach the students. As a result of this non-engagement, students now roam the streets during school hours in the above mentioned localities.

According to our Correspondent, "the trading activities of the teachers may have its negative effects on the performances of the students and also reduce their interest in their academic pursuits if not properly checked by the relevant authorities.

"The teachers do their businesses with so much audacity not minding if they were employed by the government to teach the children." A source in Uvwie stated.

"The trading activities of the teachers is very alarming as parents and community leaders are now raising eyebrows over the matter.

"In some schools where you have food vendors who pay a daily toll to the schools' welfare board for trading in their premises, the vendors too are not happy because they are experiencing low turn over at the end of each day due to the trading activities of the teachers inside classrooms. 

"The vendors are saying it is either the teachers face the teaching jobs they were engaged to do or resign their appointment and go into trading full time." The sources.

When Our Correspondent sought the views of some of the Principals of the schools in the affected areas, they declined comments on the grounds that they are civil servants.

The Delta State Government is yet to get a new Commissioner of Education that would respond to the report.
