UNLAWFUL ARRESTS IN WARRI: Activist Raises Alarm, Calls For Caution
A Warri based Human Right Activist, Comrade Gabriel Omorere today called on the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Wale Abass to caution his men to stop "unlawful arrests" in Warri saying, "There's no curfew in the town."
Comrade Omorere appealed to the Delta Commissioner of Police, CP Abass to immediately his officers and men on the incessant reports of unlawful and illegal arrests.
"Caution them so that they don't create problems for you and the Police in Nigeria. It is an appeal and advice."
Comrade Omorere made the call during a chat with naijnewsalert.com.ng.
He alleged that policemen without let, effect arrest of innocent citizens without any crimes committed especially at 9pm every night by raiding.
Comrade Omorere who is also a member of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR in Delta State said the police arrest the citizens in a bid to extort money from them.
He said he had gone to get some persons who were allegedly arrested unlawfully by the Police on bail.
He said the situation is not good for the image of the police who are supposed to be friends of the citizens.
Comrade Omorere said the Police performances in crime fighting within Warri as "very poor" just as urged them to improve and tackle the robbery attacks within the town.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe in a text message he sent to NaijNewsAlert correspondent said; "Define unlawful arrest" when he was asked to comment on the matter.
