"Like the world dancesport championships, dance is a culture and, with the abundant talents with dancing skills in Nigeria, we need to harness them and make Nigeria best in the African dancesport." Abubakar Umar, President, Dancesport Federation of Nigeria.

"We will be having a blot of competitions next year aside from the national championship to make the sport more popular, and engage more youths." Osebeyo Emmanuel, Sec. General.

The Nigeria Dancesport Federation held its Zonal Championship for teams and individuals over the weekend in preparation for its forthcoming national championship next year.

According to the Secretary General of the Nigeria Dancesport Federation, Mr Osebeyo Emmanuel, winners across geopolitical zone emerged with amazing prizes and the Federation intends to make it happen twice every year, apart from our other competitions in various states.

"We started since 2021 and we have had several exhibitions before now." Emmanuel stated.

He disclosed that the Southwest championship took place in Lagos at Rowpark while that of the South-south was held at the Sapele Township Stadium in Delta state.

Speaking further, Osebeyo revealed that for the South-east region, "we used the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium in Enugu, while in the North-east, it was held at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, ATBU Bauchi. The last but not the least was the North-west which was held at the Murtala Mohammed Square, Kaduna.

"Since it a new Federation, we will be having a blot of competitions next year aside from the national championship to make the sport more popular, and engage more youths." The Secretary General stated.

The President of the Federation, Barr. Abubakar Umar while speaking at the event, also added that "the dancesport is meant to engage the youth and take them away from the street, help them psychologically and health wise.

"We had an event early this year in Abuja and we hope to continue looking for talents to take the sport to the next level towards attending series of international events at the world level.

He noted that, "Like the world dancesport championships, dance is a culture and, with the abundant talents with dancing skills in Nigeria, we need to harness them and make Nigeria best in the African dancesport."
