The Federal Ministry of Sports Development, in a move to reposition its workforce for effective service delivery, has conducted a one-day sensitization workshop for administrative and executive officers of the ministry.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Mrs. Tinuke Watti while declaring the workshop open at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Abuja Tuesday, gave a hint that "the exercise was one of the key initiatives of the Head of Service (HOS) aimed at repositioning the Administrative cadre for increased productivity and better service delivery".

Mrs. Watti recalled that "in the past, the Administrative cadre used to be the envy of all, but had since lost its prestige due to many factors including inadequate training and capacity building as well as nonchalant attitude of most Administrative and Executive officers towards investment in self-development".

The Permanent Secretary posited that, "henceforth, Administrative officers are required to obtain professional certification from relevant and approved professional bodies for progression in the service".

She emphasized that "possession of such certification shall be one of the conditions for promotion from GL 13 - GL 14, in addition to other criteria prescribed in the Public Service Rules and Guidelines on Appointment, Promotion and Discipline".

She re-iterated that the workshop was organized to equip the Administrative and Executive Officers of the ministry with adequate knowledge of the professional bodies, membership requirements as well as opportunity to interact with the practitioners for better understanding of the journey towards professionalization of Human Resources Practice in the Service.
