ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT: SENATE COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN ON BASIC EDUCATION ESCAPES..... Police Says It's Yet To Receive Complain

Senator Lawal Adamu Usman, Chairman Senate Committee on Education (Basic and Secondary) has allegedly, escaped an assassination attempt.

Senator LA, as he is fondly addressed by his teeming supporters is a very prominent philanthropist and politician representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the 10th Nigerian National Assembly. 

According to a report monitored from his Facebook page on Wednesday 1 January 2025, Distinguished Senator Lawal Adamu Usman posted at about 9:40pm that; "I just escaped an assassination attempt by some thugs in Kaduna North." 

Since the announcement, several of his teeming supporters have flooded social media platforms with varying comments and prayers.

Naij News Alert contacted the Police Public Relations Officer of the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Mansir Hassan to get further information but the PPRO stated that the Command is try to get any official complaint from the Senator.

According to the Spokesman, Kaduna state Police Command, in a statement issued and made available to journalists, said "the alleged assassination attempt is unknown to the Police."

The Police Public Relations Officer, Kaduna state Command further disclosed that "The Command is yet to receive any formal complaint from the Distinguished Senator, aside from this astonishing publication on the social media, and all efforts to contact him proved abortive."

He noted that "The Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Rabiu has therefore ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter.

"The Kaduna State Police Command  reiterates its commitment to providing adequate security for all and sundry within the state." The statement read.

Meanwhile, many of the teeming supporters of the Distinguished Senator Lawal Adamu Usman have continued to expressed gratitude to God for sparing the Senator’s life as others criticized the deteriorating security situation in the country. They questioned how an ordinary citizen could remain safe if a high-ranking official faced such threats.

It's of note that the Distinguished Senator Lawal Adamu Usman won the seat in the 2023 Nigerian general election, running on the platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) with 250,066 votes, defeating APC candidate Muhammad Sani Abdullahi.

Born on November 11, 1974, in Kaduna State, Senator Usman is a Muslim and a prominent figure in Nigerian politics. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Master's degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy from the same institution.

Senator Usman is known for his philanthropic efforts, particularly through the LA Cares Foundation, which he founded to support vulnerable populations, including youth, orphans, widows, and the less privileged. He has also advocated for social welfare reform, criticizing the Kaduna State Government's hike in tuition fees in 2020 and launching a fund to assist affected families and students.
