Trending information reveals that about 20 members of the Kano State contingent to the just concluded Gateway Games 2024 have reportedly lost their lives in a ghastly auto crash, barely 50 kilometres to their home state at the Dakatsalle Bridge in the Kura Local Government area of Kano State. 

The Team Kano contingent, who participated in the just concluded 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF), were said to be returning to their base from Abeokuta in Ogun state when the crash occurred.

According to reports, the bus carrying most of the contingents was reportedly captured veering off a bridge, resulting in the fatal accident, a trending video on social media reveals.

The Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Umar Fagge, who confirmed the incident, said many other athletes sustained various degree of injuries following the fatal accident on Saturday.

"As I am talking to you now, we have counted 19 dead bodies,” Fagge said.

Some athletes, officials, and journalists were reportedly among those who lost their lives.
