NERC's Two Decades Journey: Oseni Commends Former Chairmen, Commissioners Over Contributions To Sector Growth, Reforms

Past Chairmen of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC have been commended for their immense contributions to ongoing Reforms to the power sector.

Giving this commendation is Muslim Oseni, Vice Chairman of NERC during his address at the just concluded technical session to mark the 20th anniversary of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, in Abuja.

Among those at the event who received the commendations from the Vice Chairman are; pioneer NERC Chairman, Dr. Ransome Owan, Dr. Sam Amadi, Prof James Momoh and the immediate past Chairman, Engr. Sanusi Garba.

Oseni, while recalling the over two decades journey, disclosed that; “Twenty years ago, the Electric Power Sector Reform Act established the Commission with a clear mandate to provide regulatory oversight of the Nigerian Power Sector.

“Many individuals and institutions have contributed immensely since the beginning of this journey. We express our profound appreciation to all the stakeholders that have contributed to the power sector reform journey or have supported the work of the Commission since inception." Oseni said.

“Our recognition and appreciation goes to the Dr. Ransome Owan-led set of commissioners for working tirelessly to set up an institution that has become a brand today.

“We thank Dr. Sam Amadi led group for providing regulatory oversight of the power sector reform. We appreciate Prof James Momoh for his contribution and dream of a robust and automated power system.

“We appreciate Engr. Sanusi Garba for building and nurturing the Commission to become a regulatory institution of repute. Your great attention to details, constant probing and what you term ‘simple clarification’ have gone a long way in making the Commission a formidable regulatory institution.

“I also recognise the contributions of some of the past staff of the Commission who had had the opportunity of leading this great institution at a certain period.

‘To my former and current commissioner colleagues (group Sanusi), thank you for your contribution. To our dependable staff, kindly accept our profound gratitude! Our great assets are the formidable staff we have built and we take pride in them.

“To all our hardworking staff, both past and present, you are the real deal!
