NERC, GIZ MOVE TO STRENGTHEN COLLABORATION IN THE POWER SECTOR

As part of its unwavering commitment to improve the Nigeria Power Sector, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), on Monday 16 February 2026 received a delegation from the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP) of GIZ on a courtesy visit aimed at reinforcing ongoing collaboration and exploring new areas of partnership in Nigeria’s electricity sector.
The GIZ delegation was led by the Head of Component, Sustainable Energy Planning and Access under the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP), Mr. Milos Karic.
Chairman of NERC, Dr. Musiliu Oseni, In his remarks, appreciated the GIZ team for their sustained support and collaboration with the Commission, noting that "the partnership between NERC and GIZ produced one of the best mini-grid regulations in Africa.
Oseni, in a statement obtained from its verified X (formerly Twitter) account, described the partnership as a benchmark for enabling off-grid electrification and expanding access to electricity, while also, calling for the continued collaboration to further strengthen regulatory frameworks and support the ongoing transformation of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
The GIZ team expressed readiness to explore new areas of collaboration with the Commission highlighting the ongoing joint initiatives, including work on the Net-Billing Regulations and stakeholder workshops focused on curbing vandalism of power infrastructure.
The delegation also noted that GIZ is currently working with some Distribution Companies (DisCos) on embedded generation initiatives aimed at improving reliability and expanding supply within franchise areas.
The visit reaffirmed the strong partnership between NERC and GIZ and underscored a shared commitment to deepening regulatory innovation, enhancing electricity access, and strengthening the sustainability of Nigeria’s power sector.
