The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has officially kicked off the construction of a new National Control Room at the National Control Centre (NCC) in Osogbo, Osun State, marking a significant step toward strengthening Nigeria’s power grid infrastructure.

The development follows the formal handover of the project site to Messrs FBS Construction Engineering Services Limited during a ceremony held on Monday, April 21, 2026.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NISO, Engr. Abdu Bello Mohammed, underscored the importance of maintaining high standards throughout the project. He urged the contractors to prioritize collaboration, professionalism, and strict compliance with safety and quality requirements. Mohammed also tasked the NCC management with ensuring effective supervision and coordination, expressing confidence that the project would be delivered on schedule.

In her remarks, the Executive Director (System Operations), Engr. Nafisatu Asabe Ali, described the National Control Centre as a critical national asset essential to both national security and economic growth. She reiterated NISO’s commitment to delivering infrastructure capable of enhancing grid stability and reliability across the country.

According to her, the handover of the site goes beyond a routine process, representing a renewed commitment to executing the project with “clarity, purpose, and efficiency.” She added that both the contractor and NISO teams possess the capacity to ensure successful delivery.

Also speaking, the Executive Director (Finance and Corporate Services), Mr. Babajide Ibironke, urged the contractor to approach the project with a strong sense of national responsibility. He noted that the initiative is crucial to improving electricity stability nationwide.
