The Federal Government has congratulated The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi state, has been lauded for the successful patent registration of GASTROPEX-BH, an indigenous medical innovation developed by researchers at the institution.

Giving the commendation on behalf of the Federal Government in Abuja on Thursday, Nigeria's Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, described the feat as a major boost for Nigeria’s health research and innovation ecosystem.

Pate, in a statement issued and signed by Ado Bako, Assistant Director, Information and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, said the development demonstrated the growing capacity of Nigerian institutions and professionals to create practical, homegrown solutions to pressing healthcare challenges.

The Minister commended the management, staff and research team of the Bauchi-based teaching hospital for their commitment to scientific advancement, innovation-driven research and quality healthcare delivery.

He also singled out the innovators behind the project, Dr. Aminu Muhammed Umar and Dr. Kefas John Bwala of the Department of Surgery, praising their dedication and intellectual contributions that culminated in the development and patent registration of GASTROPEX-BH.
