Tunji-Ojo Seeks Creative Industry Support in Building Safer Nigeria

The Federal Ministry of Interior, on behalf of the Federal Government, has indicated it's readiness to deepen collaboration with Nation's creative industry as part of efforts to strengthen public enlightenment, promote national unity, and support ongoing security and social reforms across the country.

Making this this known is the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, during a meeting with the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas, when he led a delegation of his guild to the Ministry, in Abuja.

According to the Minister, "the creative industry remains a powerful tool for advocacy, education, and public enlightenment". 

He stressed that stronger engagement with actors and other stakeholders would help communicate government policies, shape public perception, and counter misinformation.

Tunji-Ojo congratulated Rollas on his re-election as President of the Guild and commended his contributions to the growth of Nigeria's creative sector.

Highlighting reforms under the Ministry of Interior, the minister disclosed that Nigeria had recorded a significant decline in the number of repeat offenders within the correctional system. According to him, recidivism figures dropped from about 13,000 in 2023 to approximately 1,000 in 2025 following deliberate investments in rehabilitation programmes, vocational training, education, and skills acquisition initiatives.

He said the development reflects the government's commitment to transforming correctional facilities into centres of rehabilitation and reintegration rather than mere detention institutions.

The Minister also pointed to improvements in passport administration, immigration services, fire safety management, and civil defence operations, describing them as evidence of the government's determination to deliver tangible results and improve public service delivery.

He urged members of the creative industry to continue using their platforms responsibly to promote patriotism, peace, and national cohesion, noting that collective action remains critical to overcoming Nigeria's challenges.

In his remarks, Rollas praised the Federal Government's efforts in addressing security and development concerns, revealing that stakeholders within the creative industry were already mobilising support for initiatives aimed at fostering national unity, responsible citizenship, and peaceful coexistence.
