Enitan Assumes Office as Head of Civil Service, Bows Out as Education Ministry Perm Sec

The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, has assumed office as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), following his 17-month tenure at the ministry.

Enitan formally handed over the affairs of the ministry at a ceremony in Abuja, where he thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the supervising ministers and staff for the opportunity to serve.

Reflecting on his tenure, the new Head of Service described the ministry's workforce as “the finest crop of officers in the federal public service,” commending their commitment to the development of Nigeria's human capital.

He said the ministry recorded notable achievements despite funding challenges, including winning five awards at the last Head of Service awards ceremony.

Enitan urged the staff to sustain teamwork, integrity, punctuality and prudent management of public resources, stressing the need for data-driven decision-making, mentorship and continuous capacity building.

“You are in the business of developing and building human capital for the country,” he said, urging the workers to remain conscious of the strategic role of education in national development.

He also assured the ministry's workforce that he would continue to support their welfare and career progression in his new capacity.

Meanwhile, the Director of Basic Education, Folake Olatunji-Davis, who will oversee the Office of the Permanent Secretary in an acting capacity pending the appointment of a substantive successor, pledged to sustain the reforms and standards established by Enitan.

Olatunji-Davis said the ministry would continue to work collaboratively to deliver on its mandate, adding that Nigerians were looking up to the ministry for results.

Earlier, the Director of Human Resource Management, Nkiru Nneji, described Enitan as a committed and professional Permanent Secretary, while commending his leadership and contributions to the ministry.

Enitan's assumption as Head of the Civil Service of the Federation places him at the helm of the country's entire federal civil service, where he is expected to deploy his experience to strengthen efficiency, professionalism and service delivery.
