FG declares Tuesday public holiday for Eid ul Mawlid

.... Urges Nigerians to use the celebration to reflect on the virtues of compassion, humility and service to humanity, which he said were values the country needed at this time.

The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, marking the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holiday on behalf of the Federal Government on Friday, while felicitating Muslims in Nigeria and across the diaspora on the occasion.

Tunji-Ojo urged Nigerians to use the celebration to reflect on the virtues of compassion, humility and service to humanity, which he said were values the country needed at this time.

“Every Eid ul Mawlid gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others,” the minister said.

He encouraged all Nigerians, irrespective of religious affiliation, to reflect on the lessons of the occasion, while urging citizens to use the period to pray for peace and national cohesion.

The Minister stressed that national unity remained a collective responsibility and called on citizens to celebrate with restraint and mutual respect.

He also assured Nigerians of the administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property and maintaining peace across the country.

Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued and signed by Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Interior, wished the Muslim faithful a joyous and peaceful Eid ul Mawlid celebration.
